AWS Updates Windows Server Licensing for Amazon Elastic VMware Service
Amazon Web Services has introduced updates to Windows Server licensing for Amazon Elastic VMware Service (EVS), aimed at simplifying how organizations run Windows workloads in VMware-based cloud environments. The changes provide more flexible licensing options, allowing customers to better align Windows Server costs with their infrastructure usage.
The update is intended to reduce complexity for organizations migrating VMware workloads to AWS while maintaining compliance with Microsoft licensing requirements. The functionality now allows you to entitle your Windows Server VMs on Amazon EVS with Microsoft Windows Server and allows configuration of an EVS connector to a VMware vCenter Server with VM IDs for the Windows Server VMs that need to be entitled through the Amazon EVS console or AWS CLI.
Amazon EVS enables customers to run VMware environments on AWS infrastructure. By adjusting licensing options, AWS aims to make it easier for enterprises to manage Windows-based applications as they move to hybrid or cloud-based deployments. Licensing remains a key consideration for organizations migrating legacy workloads to the cloud. The feature is available in all AWS regions where Amazon EVS is available.
