AWS Security Hub Adds Impact Analysis to Prioritize Security Findings
Amazon Web Services has introduced Impact Analysis for AWS Security Hub, a new feature designed to help organizations prioritize security findings based on their potential effect on cloud workloads and business operations. Security Hub analyzes the effective permissions of IAM principals associated with exposed resources to identify privilege escalation paths to other resources in your account.
The capability provides additional context around security findings by evaluating how vulnerabilities and misconfigurations could affect resources within an AWS environment. The goal is to help security teams focus remediation efforts on issues that present the greatest operational and business risk. Security Hub factors the scope of impact into its severity scoring for exposure findings and adjusts existing exposures as their scope of impact is identified or changes, so that exposures with greater downstream reach are prioritized appropriately.
AWS said Impact Analysis integrates with existing Security Hub workflows, giving customers a clearer understanding of relationships among cloud resources and the potential consequences of identified security issues. The feature is intended to improve incident prioritization and streamline vulnerability management across complex cloud environments.
