Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5 Becomes Available in AWS GovCloud

Amazon Web Services has made Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5 available in AWS GovCloud (US), expanding access to advanced generative AI capabilities for U.S. government agencies and organizations with regulated workloads.  The launch includes Claude Opus 4.8 and Claude Sonnet 5 are available on bedrock-runtime endpoints in AWS GovCloud (US-West and US-East) and bedrock-mantle endpoints in AWS GovCloud (US-West) for performing inference.

Customers can access the model through Amazon Bedrock while keeping data within the AWS GovCloud environment, which is designed to meet U.S. government security and compliance requirements. The availability enables agencies and government contractors to build and deploy generative AI applications for tasks such as document analysis, software development, knowledge management and workflow automation without moving sensitive data outside the isolated cloud region.

The company said the addition broadens the range of foundation models available in GovCloud, allowing public sector organizations to choose AI models that best fit their operational and security requirements while taking advantage of Amazon Bedrock's managed infrastructure. Amazon Bedrock keeps your data within AWS infrastructure and provides access to Claude Sonnet 5 through a unified service with AWS-managed features like Guardrails, Knowledge Bases, and regional data residency.
