AWS MCP Server now Supports Cross-Account and Cross-Role Access
Amazon Web Services has added new capabilities to the AWS MCP Server, a service built around the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to help developers connect AI agents and applications with enterprise tools, data repositories and operational systems, part of the AWS Agent Toolkit. The feature allows developers using AI coding agents like Kiro, Claude Code, or Codex to work across multiple AWS accounts and AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles within a single session, with no restarts required.
The service provides a standardized way for AI models and agents to access external resources, reducing the need for custom integrations. By supporting MCP, AWS aims to make it easier for organizations to connect AI systems with business applications, databases and workflow platforms. AI agents using the AWS MCP Server can specify a profile on each command, allowing users to switch between accounts and roles seamlessly.
AWS said the service is intended to help developers build more capable AI agents that can retrieve information, perform actions and interact with enterprise environments while maintaining governance and security controls. The AWS MCP Server is available in the US East (N. Virginia) and Europe (Frankfurt) Regions.
