AWS RDS Adds Blue/Green Deployment Support to RDS Proxy
Amazon Web Services has added blue/green deployment support to Amazon RDS Proxy, designed to help organizations manage database updates with reduced disruption. The feature allows applications using RDS Proxy to switch between production and updated database environments during blue/green deployments. This enables more controlled transitions, helping teams test changes and shift traffic with minimal downtime. RDS Proxy can now quickly redirect connections to the Green environment for faster application recovery.
Amazon RDS Proxy acts as a managed database proxy that handles connection pooling and improves application scalability. By integrating with blue/green deployments, the service is intended to simplify upgrade processes while maintaining application availability. Database upgrades and schema changes can introduce risk and downtime, particularly in production environments. The feature is available for Amazon Aurora with MySQL compatibility, Amazon Aurora with PostgreSQL compatibility, Amazon RDS for MySQL, Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, and Amazon RDS for MariaDB in all commercial AWS Regions where RDS Proxy is available.
