AWS Backup Adds Native Support for Amazon EKS

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that AWS Backup now supports Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), enabling a native, agent-free solution for centralized backup of EKS cluster state and persistent application data.

Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) is a fully managed AWS service that simplifies running, scaling, and securing Kubernetes clusters without requiring you to manage the underlying infrastructure.

The new capability allows users to define policy-driven backup schedules, retention rules, immutable vaults, cross-Region and cross-account recovery point copies, and restores at multiple scopes including entire clusters, specific namespaces, or individual persistent volumes, the company said yesterday.

The feature is available in all AWS Regions where both AWS Backup and Amazon EKS are supported. Customers can migrate from custom scripts or third-party tools to AWS Backup for managing their EKS data protection and disaster-recovery workflows.

"For the most up-to-date information on Regional availability, please refer to the AWS Backup Regional availability, the company said.

"To get started with AWS Backup for Amazon EKS, visit the AWS Backup console."
