Amazon Expands Its Library of Free 'Q' Training Courses

Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently launched two free training courses to get users and customers up to speed on its new enterprise AI assistant, Amazon Q.

Now available from the AWS Skill Builder site as part of the "Amazon Q Learning Plan" are Amazon Q Developer Getting Started and Generative BI with Amazon Q in Quicksight - Getting Started. They join two other, previously released courses, Amazon Q Introduction and Amazon Q Business Getting Started.

Amazon made Q generally available in April, implicitly positioning it as an analog to Microsoft Copilot. Q is integrated into several AWS solutions, enabling it to tap into an organization's internal data to perform tasks, write code and answer natural-language queries.

Q is available the Amazon Connect contact center solution, the Amazon QuickSight BI platform and the AWS Supply Chain inventory management platform, as well as in Developer and Business flavors.

"Q is the world's most capable generative AI assistant," said Matt Wood, AWS' head of AI, in a blog post. "It is a catalyst for the transformation within your organization. We've seen massive productivity gains."

The two new Amazon Q courses are both beginner-level and take about one hour each to complete. Amazon Q Developer Getting Started "covers the benefits, features, typical use cases, technical concepts, and cost" of using the Developer SKU. Generative BI with Amazon Q in Quicksight teaches how to "build business intelligence dashboards in minutes, and easily create visualizations and executive summaries."

The entire Amazon Q curriculum is part of Amazon's two-year project to expand access to AI skills and training. The company's "AI Ready" program, announced in late 2023, aims to educate up to 2 million technical and non-technical people on AI through scholarships, partnerships with educational organizations and free online courses.
