Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced an expanded suite of AI certifications to help professionals validate their expertise and advance in high-demand technical roles. The new lineup includes four certifications that span from foundational knowledge for business professionals to advanced generative AI development for experienced engineers.

The highlight is the new AWS Certified Generative AI Developer - Professional certification, which validates the ability to design, build, and deploy enterprise-grade generative AI applications on AWS. The credential covers advanced topics including foundation model selection, vector database integration, prompt engineering, and cost optimization for scalable AI deployments. Registration for the beta exam opens Nov. 18.

This new professional-level certification builds on three existing AI and machine learning credentials: AWS Certified AI Practitioner, AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate, and AWS Certified Data Engineer - Associate. Each certification has a clear focus: AI Practitioner validates understanding of core AI concepts and responsible AI practices; Machine Learning Engineer covers scaling and maintaining real-time models; Data Engineer ensures proficiency in building data pipelines and quality management; and the new Generative AI Developer targets architects and developers implementing enterprise AI systems.

AWS also offers free and low-cost preparation resources through its AWS Skill Builder platform, including digital courses and practice exams, as well as structured career programs through the AWS Cloud Institute.
