Freelancing Site Sees Surge in Demand for Amazon DynamoDB Skills

Freelancing specialist Upwork has published a new index tracking the most-wanted skills sought by organizations, with the Amazon DynamoDB NoSQL database service seeing a surge in demand.

In fact, according to Upwork's Q4 2017 Skills Index, DynamoDB skills ranked No. 2 in employer demand, behind only the upstart bitcoin technology.

"Companies are leveraging AWS to drive business growth," said Upwork, which matches freelance workers with employers seeking various skills.

"Amazon DynamoDB was the second-fastest growing skill last quarter, the same quarter Amazon Web Services, an Amazon.com company, announced new capabilities for its database products at AWS re:Invent. Amazon DynamoDB, used by more than 100,000 AWS customers, is a fast and flexible NoSQL database service for all applications that need consistent, single-digit millisecond latency at any scale."

Coincidentally, at about the same time the Upwork report was published, AWS unveiled new encryption functionality for DynamoDB, furthering its increased attention to the database service, which was noted by Upwork.

"The surge in demand for freelance specialists familiar with the technology came shortly after AWS launched a multi-platform campaign," Upwork said. "The campaign focuses on what AWS enables builders to do by depicting real solutions being worked out by builders on massive whiteboards."
