Firms Offer Disaster Recovery Service to AWS Managed Service Providers
Orbitera Inc. and Unitrends are teaming up to offer Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS) to companies that provide end-user solutions based on the Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) cloud.
Orbitera Cloud says its Commerce Platform helps Managed Service Providers (MSP) sell, deliver and manage cloud-based infrastructure and software, while Unitrends provides Boomerang, a virtual appliance that replicates VMware virtual machines (VMs) to AWS for backup and disaster recovery. The companies said their partnership will let AWS MSPs differentiate their products and maintain margins with DRaaS, migration, cloudbursting and billing for AWS infrastructure.
"IT managers looking to cut costs by eliminating a second datacenter or by taming virtual machine sprawl will significantly benefit from using the Orbitera Cloud Commerce Platform in conjunction with Unitrends Boomerang," the companies said in a statement last week. "AWS MSPs, in turn, can leverage the Orbitera platform to simplify billing and invoicing, manage cloud infrastructure spend, create custom price books, bundle software and services, and manage support plans, while optimizing their data management and protection procedures with Unitrends Boomerang."
Research firm Gartner Inc. predicted the public cloud market is expected to total $89 billion this year, the companies said, with backup and DRaaS being popular requested solutions in this burgeoning market. Many of the organizations wanting to deploy such solutions prefer MSPs and channel partners to deliver them, the companies said, providing a big opportunity for MSPs to get in on the action.
