E-Discovery Firm Everlaw Moves Its Platform to AWS GovCloud
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has a new customer of its GovCloud region for public sector agencies.
Everlaw, a provider of e-discovery software used by organizations in the legal industry, including government agencies and law firms, this week announced it has migrated its platform to AWS GovCloud.
"Providing a fast, highly secure and modern collaboration solution that meets the critical needs of government agencies is of the utmost importance to us," said Kevin Babcock, Everlaw's director of security engineering, in a prepared statement. "Our move to AWS GovCloud (US) allows our federal clients to confidently use our solution, knowing that their information is protected by the highest cloud security standards."
GovCloud is a separate AWS region meant for organizations that process highly sensitive or classified data, as well those that must meet compliance requirements particular to the U.S. government. Unlike standard AWS accounts, GovCloud access requires an additional account ID and other access credentials.
"Access is restricted to customers who are U.S. persons, not subject to export restrictions, and who comply with US export control laws and regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)," acccording to this GovCloud FAQ.
GovCloud lets organizations store their data in the cloud in a way that's compliant with the FedRAMP (Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program) regulatory framework.
Everlaw's e-discovery platform is itself FedRAMP-certified. According to the company, moving to AWS GovCloud makes Everlaw "one of the first cloud-native ediscovery, collaboration and document review solutions to meet these stringent U.S. government security requirements."
"AWS GovCloud (US) allows Everlaw to better support federal export controls, compliance, and storage of highly sensitive data," Everlaw said. "Additionally, the Amazon Region is operated exclusively by U.S. citizens on U.S. soil, as is Everlaw's platform, enabling the company to serve government agencies with NOFORN (no foreign national) requirements."
