AWS Adds Compliance Controls to Backup Service
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced a new feature to its managed backup service that helps organizations manage the compliance of their backups.
AWS Backup Audit Manager is now generally available within the AWS Backup service, the company said this week. In a blog post, AWS developer advocate Steve Rogers summed up the new tool as way to "monitor and evaluate the compliance status of your backups to meet business and regulatory requirements," and to "generate reports that help demonstrate compliance to auditors and regulators."
While the larger AWS Backup service already automates basic backup tasks, users are still on their own when it comes to make sure that their backup policies are being followed, as well as distilling backup transcripts into digestible reports for auditors.
Audit Manager simplifies both of these processes, according to AWS. The feature lets users "generate automatic daily reports," Rogers said. It also comes with five pre-built controls that users can switch on to ensure that their backups meet the specific compliance and regulatory requirements of their organization.
The five control templates included in Audit Manager are:
- Backup resources protected by backup plan
- Backup plan minimum frequency and minimum retention
- Backup prevent recovery point manual deletion
- Backup recovery point encrypted
- Backup recovery point minimum retention
There are also three pre-built report templates:
- Backup jobs report
- Restore jobs report
- Copy jobs report
