AWS Open Sources More Parts of Its .NET Porting Assistant

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has open sourced its Porting Assistant for .NET's graphical user interface (GUI), the latest component in the tool to become available to the open source community.

Introduced last July, the Porting Assistant for .NET scans apps and generates .NET Core compatibility assessments, helping speed up ports to the new platform -- .NET Core and its new successor, .NET 5 -- running on Linux.

AWS had previously open sourced the tool's data store and subsequently the client and source code analyzer used by the assessment APIs. The latest component to join the open source party is PortingAssistant.UI, a package providing the source code of the porting tool's UI.

Also being outsourced was AWS UI, which provides React components for Web developers. These components were used in the .NET porting tool, as it was built with React, using the Electron application framework.

"AWS UI is a collection of React components that help create intuitive, responsive, and accessible user experiences for web applications," AWS said. "AWS UI is available under the terms of the Apache 2.0 open source license. This release of AWS UI is just the first step in a larger process of creating a new open source design system. Stay tuned for future updates in this space!"
