AWS Slashes Price of CloudEndure Disaster Recovery
Amazon Web Services (AWS) this week announced a significant price reduction -- about 80 percent -- in its CloudEndure disaster recovery service, which it acquired a year ago.
CloudEndure Disaster Recovery promises quick and low-cost recovery of an organization's servers, databases and applications, whether they're on-premises, cloud-based or virtualized.
According to the product site, "CloudEndure Disaster Recovery continuously replicates your machines (including operating system, system state configuration, databases, applications, and files) into a low-cost staging area in your target AWS account and preferred Region. In the case of a disaster, you can instruct CloudEndure Disaster Recovery to automatically launch thousands of your machines in their fully provisioned state in minutes."
This process eliminates the need for organizations to buy additional software licenses or duplicate their infrastructure, reducing their compute costs by as much as 95 percent, claims AWS evangelist Jeff Barr in a blog post Monday.
AWS is sweetening the pot even further with the 80 percent price reduction, which brings the cost of CloudEndure to "$0.028 per hour, or about $20 per month per server," according to Barr.
The company is also changing its CloudEndure billing model from contract-based to usage-based. Instead of signing a contract obligating them to pay for a certain number of servers, customers can simply pay for their hourly server usage, according to the AWS announcement.
"By moving from contract-based to usage-based billing, we are aligning with the AWS consumption model that provides customers with greater flexibility," the company said.
