AWS Unveils Next-Gen GPU-Powered Compute Instances

Targeting use cases like graphics-intensive applications and the deployment of machine learning models in production, Amazon Web Services announced its next generation of GPU-powered compute instances.

Now generally available are Amazon EC2 G4 GPU-powered Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances, which provide the newest NVIDIA T4 GPUs, AWS custom Intel Cascade Lake CPUs, up to 100 Gbps of networking throughput, and up to 1.8 TB of local NVMe storage.

In a blog post, spokesperson Jeff Barr said that, in addition to machine learning training and inferencing use cases, the next-gen offerings can be applied to video transcoding, game streaming and remote graphics workstations applications.

"Customers with machine learning workloads can launch G4 instances using Amazon SageMaker or AWS Deep Learning AMIs, which include machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, TensorRT, MXNet, PyTorch, Caffe2, CNTK, and Chainer," the company said in a news release.

Barr said customers can now can launch G4 instances in the US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), US West (N. California), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland), Europe (London), Asia Pacific (Seoul), and Asia Pacific (Tokyo) Regions. "We are also working to make them accessible in Amazon SageMaker and in Amazon EKS clusters," he said.
