AWS, Azure Explode in Popularity Among Job Seekers
Interest in both Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure is skyrocketing among job seekers and employers alike.
Careers site Indeed.com analyzed two years' worth of Web search data and found that jobs requiring AWS and Azure expertise experienced some of the fastest-growing demand across all tech skills. The site, which claims over 200 million unique visitors each month, published its findings this week.
AWS was particularly popular, clocking 98 percent year-over-year growth in job-seeker searches. That puts AWS second only to searches for the React JavaScript library, which had year-over-year growth north of 300 percent.
Given that AWS is the leading cloud platform in the industry -- with a market share that's estimated to be higher than its five closest competitors combined -- its rapid growth in demand is not surprising.
AWS skills were also increasingly sought by employers, according to Indeed.com's data, which clocked search growth for AWS among hiring companies at 40 percent year over year.
In third place behind AWS is Azure, which also happens to be AWS' closest cloud rival in terms of market share. Indeed.com found that searches for Azure among job seekers grew by 51 percent year over year.
Among employers, however, Azure actually outpaces AWS; according to Indeed.com, hiring companies increased their searches for Azure at a year-over-year rate of 62 percent.
"In our list, two cloud operations -- Amazon Web Services and Microsoft's Azure -- round out the top three on the job seeker search side and also posted double-digit gains on the employer side," Indeed.com said in its report. "Cloud is gaining because businesses of all stripes are boosting their use of off-site computing and storage -- and that's making experienced cloud developers a must-have for many employers."
