Symantec Picks AWS as Its Main Cloud Infrastructure Partner
Security software firm Symantec has tapped Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its primary platform to run the "vast majority of its cloud workloads," the two companies said earlier this month.
As part of the collaboration with AWS, which Symantec touts as a key component of its "cloud-first strategy," Symantec will move significant portions of its operations to the AWS cloud, as well as use the AWS Marketplace to sell its line of security services.
Symantec has also deployed a data lake on AWS "that collects tens of terabytes of data every day from 175 million endpoints and more than 57 million attack sensors," according to the announcement.
"Our cloud-first approach to engineering requires a highly scalable and reliable infrastructure that helps our team deliver faster time-to-market and ensure that security remains our top priority," said Raj Patel, head of Cloud Platform Engineering at Symantec, in a prepared statement. "Symantec is committed to protecting the cloud generation through our leading security products, as well as leveraging the cloud to deliver our services. AWS's experience serving some of the most risk-sensitive enterprise customers was an important part of the decision to choose AWS as we execute on our enterprise Integrated Cyber Defense strategy."
Notably, news of the Symantec-AWS partnership comes just a month after Symantec unveiled a similar-sounding deal with AWS cloud rival Microsoft Azure. The Symantec-Azure partnership announced in October entails running the security company's Norton anti-virus product out of Azure datacenters.
Symantec also indicated at the time that it plans to move its e-commerce system and other parts of its internal IT operations to Azure.
