AWS Launches Machine Learning Competency for Partners
AWS Partner Network (APN) members with specialized data science expertise can now try their hand at being certified Amazon Web Services (AWS) machine learning partners.
Launched this week in Las Vegas at the AWS re:Invent 2017 Global Partner Summit, the new AWS Machine Learning competency is open to APN partners whose solutions "help organizations solve their data challenges, enable machine learning and data science workflows, or offer SaaS based capabilities that enhance end applications with machine intelligence," AWS said in its announcement.
There are three categories within the machine learning competency: Data Services, Platform Providers and SaaS/API Providers. To qualify for any of them, partners must be registered as advanced-tier APN Technology Partners.
Other requirements, as detailed in this AWS datasheet, include:
- A Business level+ Support plan.
- At least four customer references citing machine learning projects that the partner has completed in the past 12 months. At least two of the references must be publicly accessible.
- A machine learning solution that's built on AWS.
- At least one employee with an AWS associate level certification or higher.
As the datasheet notes, the machine learning competency is meant for partners whose bread and butter is providing machine learning services to their customers, rather than partners who simply use machine learning in the background of their solutions.
"We are looking to recognize partners that are 'builders' and that can help their customers...create intelligence within their applications," AWS said. "What we are NOT looking for are users or developers that leverage Machine Learning as part of their overarching application or service. An example of this could be applying a predictive model for cyber security. For this, we would recommend pursuing the APN Security Competency."
At launch, there are 17 APN partners that hold the AWS Machine Learning competency. More information on the competency is available here.
