Tech Partners Jump on VMware-AWS Hybrid Cloud

There's no shortage of early third-party support for VMware Cloud on AWS, the new hybrid cloud solution jointly developed by VMware and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Now in limited availability with global expansion expected next year, VMware Cloud on AWS lets organizations run their on-premises VMware workloads on bare-metal AWS infrastructure by leveraging Cloud Formation, VMware's software-defined datacenter (SDDC) platform.

Coming after a 10-month testing period, the VMware Cloud on AWS launch garnered the lion's share of the spotlight at Monday's VMworld 2017 opening keynote, despite the numerous other announcements made at the event. Riding the wave of interest are over two dozen related offerings from VMware technology partners that provide additional security, migration, data protection and DevOps capabilities. Here's a sampling:

Security
The Deep Security solution from Trend Micro is now available for VMware Cloud on AWS, giving users a unified environment to monitor the security of their workloads, both on-premises and in the cloud.

Likewise, McAfee is adding support for VMware Cloud on AWS to its agentless virtual machine security solution, dubbed MOVE AntiVirus.

Providing application-level security to VMware Cloud on AWS is Palo Alto Networks, which announced integration with its Next-Generation Security Platform.

For security key management, HyTrust has added support for VMware Cloud on AWS to its DataControl solution.

Fortinet is also integrating its FortiGate Virtual Machine product with VMware Cloud on AWS, enabling organizations to extend their security policies from their on-premises and private cloud environments to AWS.

Backup/Recovery
Already a provider of backup and recovery services for many VMware solutions, Dell EMC on Monday announced that it is extending its Data Protection Suite to include VMware Cloud on AWS.

DevOps
On the DevOps side, Chef is extending its compliance and infrastructure automation portfolio with VMware Cloud on AWS.

Splunk's machine learning-powered monitoring and intelligence suite, Splunk Enterprise, also now supports the product.

Similarly, Dynatrace announced that it has added support for VMware Cloud on AWS to its AI-based application monitoring solution.

Puppet announced that its configuration management platform is now integrated with VMware Cloud on AWS, as well as with VMware AppDefense, a new security solution also unveiled at VMworld.

The event-driven automation platform from SaltStack, dubbed SaltStack Enterprise, can now be used for VMware Cloud on AWS.

Migration
In the migration planning space, CloudCheckr is extending its Migrate for VMware solution to support the new offering.

CloudPhysics has launched two new migration assessment products for organizations considering VMware Cloud on AWS -- the self-service CloudPhysics Self-Assessment and the partner-delivered CloudPhysics Engage Assessment.

Akasia is also updating its eponymous modeler product to help organizations project the cost to migrate their operations to VMware Cloud on AWS.

For organizations further along the process of adopting VMware Cloud on AWS, RackWare has added support to its RMM Cloud Management Platform to help them move, protect and optimize their datacenter workloads for the cloud.

Additionally, CloudVelox is extending its One Hybrid Cloud migration automation and workload repatriation product to VMware Cloud on AWS customers.
