Equinix, Telehouse Expand Secure AWS Connections

Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers in New York and London now have more options for establishing direct and secure connections to the cloud.

Telehouse, a London-based datacenter and colocation services provider, on Tuesday announced that it is adding support for AWS to its Telehouse Cloud Link solution. The Cloud Link service lets Telehouse customers connect to their cloud-based assets via a single, private connection without having to go through the public Internet, reducing their exposure to security risks.

Launched just this past spring, Cloud Link initially only supported direct connections to Microsoft's cloud. Tuesday's announcement expands that capability to AWS.

Telehouse touts the service as a boon for enterprises based in London who need to manage their hybrid cloud environments efficiently and with low latency.

"Telehouse continues to meet the demands of its enterprise customers by offering services that deliver speed to market, flexibility and scalability through its extensive network of service providers located at its [London] Docklands campus," said Ken Sakai, managing director of Telehouse Europe, in a prepared statement. "Providing secure and private access to the leading cloud service provider Amazon Web Services through Telehouse Cloud Link further extends the choice and ease with which our customers can manage their hybrid IT solutions with Telehouse."

Stateside, New York customers of colocation provider Equinix can now connect directly to AWS, as well. Announced by Equinix on Thursday, this capability leverages AWS' Direct Connect service, which lets users set up dedicated network connections from their on-premises environments to the AWS cloud.

Connectivity to AWS is now available to all Equinix customers out of the company's New York datacenter campus, which serves over 800 businesses, many of them in the financial services industry.

"Companies with latency-sensitive applications and workloads -- and specifically financial services firms -- require predicable performance to ensure a consistent, high-quality user experience," said Kaushik Joshi, global managing director of strategic alliances at Equinix, in a prepared statement. "AWS Direct Connect combined with the Equinix interconnection platform is an ideal combination that enables these customers to deploy hybrid cloud architectures and achieve this level of performance and security."

Besides New York, Equinix offers direct AWS connections in 16 other regions worldwide: Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, Northern California, Washington, D.C., São Paulo, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Munich, Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore, Sydney and London.
