Sungard Availability Services Helps Move Workloads to AWS Cloud
Sungard Availability Services launched a new managed service designed to help organizations move their IT workloads to the Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) cloud.
Called Managed Cloud – Amazon Web Services, the new offering from Sungard AS provides a common management toolset to simplify cloud migrations, operations and recovery with a programmatic approach.
With a focus on hybrid environments in which multiple clouds -- sometimes public and private -- are leveraged, the managed service emphasizes security and compliance controls, an area recently publicized by a spate of vulnerability reports often resulting from misconfigurations (see "Security Firm: No Encryption on 82 Percent of Public Cloud Databases" and "Firm Finds Terabytes of Unsecured Data, Personal Info on Cloud Back-Ends" for two recent examples).
"When creating new accounts, the security and configuration is implemented automatically," the company said. "An automated environment confirms that customers' workloads are secure and performing properly inside of AWS and also in Sungard AS data centers."
Other security and compliance functionality includes:
- Gather data and keep tabs on provisioning activity in every account with native AWS Config and AWS CloudTrail tools.
- Enable and apply best-practice architecture for AWS accounts.
- Enforce configurations globally, across entire AWS deployments.
- Built-in billing alerts make sure a team doesn't overspend.
Other security-related capabilities include OS management that provides monitoring, patching, anti-virus and incident resolution for critical workloads. Other services include enhanced management of system snapshots for backup and recovery, and management of all AWS resources through a single set of credentials,
"Customers are looking for a partner to help them across their entire IT deployment," said CTO Josh Crowe. "Not all applications are ready to move to the cloud, so most companies find themselves in a hybrid IT environment. Sungard AS has the expertise to help companies determine the right course of action for each application and create a robust, available and recoverable infrastructure for both cloud and legacy applications."
The new service is available in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
