Fugue Centralizes Cloud Infrastructure Management

Fugue Inc. enhanced its cloud infrastructure management platform, providing control reach that spans multiple Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) accounts.

With yesterday's launch of Fugue Team Conductor, the Frederick, Md., company said users can centralize -- and scale as needed -- their management, governance and collaboration operations.

"Since its inception, Fugue has focused on giving customers the means to build, enforce and retire cloud infrastructure automatically and continuously," the company said in a statement yesterday. "The new release extends Fugue's code validation, access control, multi-account management, and continuous policy enforcement capabilities to offer customers an end-to-end, next-generation cloud operations solution."

That inception occurred last August, when the start-up announced its "industry first" product that operates as the layer between the AWS cloud and the services to automate the deployment and management of middleware, databases and other services in support of applications.

Yesterday's announcement reinforced that "industry first" claim.

"Fugue is the industry's first comprehensive solution that compiles, configures, manages, automates, monitors and enforces AWS cloud workloads, helping I&O teams quickly and proactively optimize cloud operations to ensure an outstanding end user experience," the company said.

The company said Team Conductor helps organizations using the AWS cloud:

• Mitigate risk via role-based access controls, policy-as-code compliance and security rules and more
• Eliminate configuration drift by continuously managing and enforcing desired infrastructure state
• Enforce consistency by helping cloud architects and DevOps teams simplify and share infrastructure compositions, pattern libraries and best practices
• Get fast access to dev/text environments to help DevOps teams and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) easily spin up and remove development, test and staging environments

Along with Fugue, several other vendors have launched solutions that also help AWS customers get a better handle on the myriad AWS products and services that can lead to complex cloud infrastructure implementations.

The need for such products -- along with professional services support -- was explained by research firm Gartner Inc. last year.

"Organizations that cannot quickly take advantage of new capabilities will not receive the full benefits of AWS's rapid introduction of new services and expanded capabilities for existing services," Gartner said in a Magic Quadrant report on the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) market. "A customer's best practices may become outdated as better or more cost-effective capabilities are introduced."

"Less-sophisticated customers may become overwhelmed by the range of possible options; training and third-party assistance are strongly recommended," Gartner continued. "Customers must proactively seek the depth of sales and solution architecture engagement they need to be successful; this may require professional services, not just support."

Pricing for Fugue Team Conductor starts at $15,000 per year.
