Logentries Offers Free CloudTrail Service
Logentries.com Inc. announced a free log auditing service in beta for tracking security and resource utilization data for users of Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) CloudTrail.
CloudTrail is a Web service that records API calls made on user accounts and delivers log files to their Amazon S3 storage buckets.
"The weekly reporting service provides an automated log-level view into valuable intelligence about AWS account changes, such as most common security-related actions, most frequent errors, most active users, and an audit trail of account changes," the company said in a statement.
Logentries said customers of its service and AWS can sign up to use the new service and get free weekly reports as part of its new initiative to provide log data analytics vetted by its Data Insights team.
According to a
blog post by Logentries exec Trevor Parsons last week, the first report will provide a metrics overview listing the following:
- System activity over time (day, week, totals).
- Most common security-related actions.
- Most active users.
- Instance launch and termination over time.
- Top successful user access by region.
- Top unauthorized user access by regions.
"Logentries has been designed to be easy to use and provides out-of-the-box intelligence for common components (which makes log analysis for common systems easier than with any other logging provider)," Parsons said. "But someone on your team will still need to know what to look for, you will need to spend time perusing your logs, and will require a basic understanding for the data set you are analyzing."
Interested users can sign up for the beta program for the log auditing service, expected to go to general availability next month.
