Pivotal Adds One-Click AWS Integration
Pivotal Software Inc. added one-click integration with the Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) cloud to its Cloud Foundry Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering.
Cloud Foundry is a hybrid cloud platform for provisioning, deploying and managing native applications. Pivotal added AWS integration to its stable of supported products, including VMware vSphere VMware vCloud Air and OpenStack. Pivotal earlier this year said Cloud Foundry recorded the fastest first-year sales growth of any open source product in 2014.
The Palo Alto, Calif., company said users can install Cloud Foundry under their own AWS accounts or use its new Pivotal Web Services with Enterprise Support to let Pivotal manage the instances for them. The company said it's now offering enterprise users of Cloud Foundry supported access to Pivotal Web Services, which provides cloud infrastructure. With this news, Cloud Foundry users can now deploy native applications on AWS, taking advantage of a single deployment experience across clouds both public and private, company exec David Soul said in a blog post last week.
"Today's release also brings AWS virtual appliance support for Pivotal Cloud Foundry," the company said in a statement last week. "With this feature, AWS customers can now natively deploy Cloud Foundry applications in hours on their AWS infrastructure. This complete hybrid architecture lets operators migrate Cloud Foundry applications freely between on-premises infrastructure and the cloud, regardless of their underlying infrastructure."
Pivotal said the latest rendition of Cloud Foundry lets customers use existing licenses to take advantage of hosted application instances with no additional cost, lending it to rapid deployment scenarios without having to worry about public cloud administration and management details.
