AWS Announces Amazon Braket for Quantum Computing
Amazon Braket, a new managed service for quantum computing on the AWS cloud, was announced by Amazon Web Services during its re:Invent conference.
Braket is described as a "fully managed service that allows scientists, researchers, and developers to begin experimenting with computers from multiple quantum hardware providers in a single place." As of now it's provided by D-Wave, IonQ and Rigetti (as well as a simulated environment).
"I think it is safe to say that most organizations will never own a quantum computer, and will find the cloud-based on-demand model a better fit," commented AWS Chief Evangelist Jeff Barr in a blog post announcing Braket. "It may well be the case that production-scale quantum computers are the first cloud-only technology."
"This new service is designed to let you get some hands-on experience with qubits and quantum circuits," Barr said. "You can build and test your circuits in a simulated environment and then run them on an actual quantum computer. Amazon Braket is a fully managed AWS service, with security and encryption baked in at each level."
Amazon also launched a new Quantum Solutions Lab as a way to connect its users with quantum computing experts and partners.
"Amazon Quantum Solutions Lab experts will impart knowledge and guide research so that you can build quantum skills, experience, and expertise," the company said. "Our experts will work side-by-side with your team to dive deep into the most effective ways of using quantum computers, collaborate on experiments, and provide insights about existing quantum technology so that you are ready to deploy quantum solutions when the time is right."
