AWS Kubernetes Service Now Supports Windows Containers
The Kubernetes service offered by Amazon Web Services, called Amazon EKS, now supports container development on Windows servers.
Development teams can now create Windows container applications and deploy them on Kubernetes along with Linux applications.
The general availability of support for Windows worker nodes on the AWS cloud's Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service comes after a preview that started last March.
"Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service simplifies the process of building, securing, operating, and maintaining Kubernetes clusters, and allows organizations to focus on building applications instead of operating Kubernetes," the company said in an Oct. 8 announcement. AWS claimed to be the first cloud platform to support Windows containers on Kubernetes.
The support for Windows nodes on Amazon EKS is available for all clusters running Kubernetes version 1.14 and above, as that version includes production-level support for adding Windows nodes as worker nodes and scheduling Windows containers.
