Oracle, AWS Readying a Multicloud Database Solution
A new solution from Oracle and AWS that would let Oracle database customers easily tap AWS services is set for a preview release later in 2024.
Oracle and AWS announced the new offering, Oracle Database@AWS, this week during the Oracle CloudWorld conference, touting it as a jointly offered solution. Broader availability will come in 2025 after the initial preview release this year.
"With Oracle Cloud Infrastructure deployed inside of AWS datacenters, we can provide customers with the best possible database and network performance," said Oracle chairman Larry Ellison in a prepared statement.
Similar to the existing Oracle Database@Azure product for Microsoft customers, Oracle Database@AWS lets organizations run Oracle database services -- specifically Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service -- on top of the AWS cloud infrastructure. The product will connect AWS' cloud to Oracle's databases via a low-latency network.
Oracle Database@AWS will enable Oracle database users to tap into AWS' solutions, including those for data storage, analytics, machine learning and AI. AWS users can also quickly provision Oracle database services via the AWS Marketplace.
"We are seeing huge demand from customers that want to use multiple clouds," Ellison said. "To meet this demand and give customers the choice and flexibility they want, Amazon and Oracle are seamlessly connecting AWS services with the very latest Oracle Database technology, including the Oracle Autonomous Database."
