AWS Debuts Spreadsheet-Based No-Code App Service Honeycode
Amazon Web Services (AWS) this week announced the beta release of Honeycode, a service that lets users build mobile and Web applications with no coding.
Honeycode promises to help non-developers build custom apps by simply using familiar spreadsheet formulas, but without the complications that come with sharing large volumes of spreadsheet data between multiple users.
"Sharing data across multiple users and multiple spreadsheets is difficult, as is dealing with large amounts of data. Integration & automation are also challenging, and require specialized skills," explained AWS evangelist Jeff Barr in a blog post describing the new service.
Via the spreadsheet-based interface, users can tap their existing knowledge of spreadsheet formulas to build complex apps, as well as take advantage of new formulas built into Honeycode.
The service comes with customizable templates for common apps, including to-do lists, customer trackers, surveys, inventory management, time-off reports, team task trackers and event management. Users can also import their own CSV data onto the service.
Honeycode lets users easily add interactivity into their apps. There are options from a drop-down menu to include buttons and input fields, for instance. They can also program their apps to automatically perform table modifications in response to specific actions.
