Nokia, AWS Partner To Drive Cloud Adoption in Large Orgs

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and communications giant Nokia are collaborating on an initiative to bring more large enterprises and service providers to the cloud.

The partnership, unveiled Thursday, is aimed at enabling enterprise-scale cloud solutions and capabilities -- including Internet of Things (IoT), improved connectivity and consulting services -- for the two companies' mutual enterprise customers, as well as communication service providers.

"This is a wide-ranging collaboration, spanning our services capabilities in application migration, SD-WAN from Nuage Networks, 5G, and IoT, allowing new growth opportunities for our top customers across both the service provider and large enterprise market segments," said Nokia Chief Strategy Officer Kathrin Buvac in a prepared statement.

The partnership has four focus areas, as outlined in Nokia's announcement:

  • IoT: Nokia will develop IoT solutions using AWS infrastructure -- particularly Amazon Machine Learning and AWS Greengrass -- in combination with its own IMPACT IoT platform and edge computing offering.
  • Partner Services: For service providers moving to AWS, Nokia will provide a bundle of support offerings spanning consulting, design, migration and implementation.
  • User Experience: The two companies will integrate the AWS console with Nuage Networks, Nokia's software-defined networking business that it acquired when it purchased Alcatel-Lucent in 2016. This integration will enable "secure branch connectivity in hybrid environments with 'Single Pane of Glass' capabilities," Nokia said.
  • 5G: Finally, the two will "generate new 5G and Edge Cloud strategies and guidance for customers including reference architectures."

"We are excited to partner with Nokia to accelerate cloud transformation for service providers, and enable the digital transformation journey for our mutual large enterprise customers," said Terry Wise, head of Channels and Alliances at AWS.
