AWS Links CodeStar and CodeBuild to GitHub
Open source repository GitHub now integrates with two of Amazon Web Services' developer tools.
CodeStar, the integrated development environment that AWS made generally available just this past April, now lets users choose GitHub as a version control system.
Previously, the only option available for a managed source control service in CodeStar was CodeCommit, which is another AWS product.
In addition, the CodeStar dashboard now lets users "centrally track GitHub activities including commits, issues, and pull requests," AWS said in an announcement Wednesday.
The GitHub-CodeStar integration comes on the heels of a similar tie-up between GitHub and CodeBuild, AWS' managed build service that debuted last December.
Late last month, AWS announced that CodeBuild now supports GitHub pull requests. This integration makes it easier for developers "to collaborate across [their] team while editing and building [their] application code," AWS said.
The integrations are part of AWS' effort to open up its developer tools portfolio to more third-party solutions, according to a blog post by Balaji Iyer, an enterprise consultant within AWS' Professional Services team.
Linking CodeStar and CodeBuild to GitHub "will make it easier for GitHub users to set up a continuous integration and continuous delivery toolchain as part of their release process using AWS Developer Tools," Iyer wrote.
