AWS Adds Machine Learning, AI Courses for Partners

In a bid to get its partners up to speed on the machine learning capabilities of its platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has added two new AI-focused courses to its training and certification program.

The introductory-level Machine Learning module is a free 40-minute online course designed to give students an overview of "the types of problems that Amazon is solving with machine learning and the methods and tools that are used in these solutions," according to the Web site.

Aimed at those just starting out in machine learning, including AWS partners, the course will teach students how to view machine learning from a practical, real-world and business standpoint. It will also outline the steps of building machine learning models, "from posing the question/problem, collecting data, and building a model to evaluating model performance and integrating it into your application," according to AWS.

There are no hard requirements to take the Introduction to Machine Learning course, but AWS recommends that students have some knowledge of software systems, business administration or computer science.

The second class, called Deep Learning on AWS, is more intensive. This one-day, instructor-led, in-person course is designed for developers who already have experience in machine learning. Students will learn how to run deep learning applications using AWS' infrastructure, including AWS Lambda and the Amazon EC2 Container Service.

AWS recommends that Deep Learning students have a working knowledge of AWS solutions and know at least one scripting language. Students are also encouraged to take the entry-level Machine Learning course before the Deep Learning class, though it's not required.

In addition, the Deep Learning module carries a fee, depending on the location that a student chooses. However, members of the AWS Partner Network (APN) qualify for a 20 percent discount for instructor-led courses, according to AWS' announcement here.
