Raft of AWS Services Extends Global Reach
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has spent the past few weeks expanding its global footprint by making several of its solutions available in new markets.
Here's a rundown of which services are newly available where, since the start of this month:
- The AWS Server Migration Service is now available to European customers out of the Frankfurt region. It's also supported in the company's GovCloud region, clearing it for use at government and public sector organizations.
- Also available in the GovCloud region are the AWS Config Rules and Amazon Rekognition services.
- Customers in South America can now use the Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda and AWS CodeCommit services via the São Paulo region.
- CodeCommit is also newly available out of AWS datacenters in Northern California, Seoul and London.
- AWS has added support for Amazon Inspector in its Northern California region.
- Developers in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and Italy can now order the AWS IoT Button.
- Users of the Amazon Simple Queue Service can now take advantage of the "first-in, first-out" capability -- which preserves the order of messages generated by serverless applications and microservices -- out of the Ireland and Northern Virginia regions.
- Also newly supported in AWS' Ireland datacenters is Amazon Athena.
- The AWS Step Functions service is now supported in the Sydney region.
These developments follow AWS' announcement in late May that it has significantly expanded the availability of its Amazon Lightsail virtual private server (VPS) solution to a total of 10 regions worldwide.
AWS is also working to increase its number of cloud regions worldwide, with new infrastructure in Paris, Stockholm and Ningxia all slated to open over the course of the coming months, as well as a second GovCloud region in 2018.
