New in AWS Marketplace: TeamViewer for Workspaces, RiverMeadow Server Migration, BlockStack Core

Last week was a busy one for new AWS Marketplace entries, as new offerings were added for TeamViewer for AWS WorkSpaces (secure remote support and access to desktop apps), RiverMeadow Server Migration SaaS (secure workload migrations into AWS) and Blockstack Core (decentralized Internet via blockchain technology).

Here's a look at each:

  • TeamViewer for AWS WorkSpaces
TeamViewer provides software for digital networking and collaboration, specializing in secure remote access, remote support and online meetings.

The new TeamViewer for AWS WorkSpaces offering is targeted at the cloud giant's managed desktop computing service unveiled in 2014. Described as "a cloud-based replacement for a traditional desktop," Amazon WorkSpaces virtually provides desktop services to work with documents, applications and other computing resources from multiple devices.

To help customers find desktop apps, AWS in 2015 introduced the AWS Marketplace for Desktop Apps, with which the TeamViewer software works.

"Remote support through TeamViewer will allow WorkSpaces customers to give and receive support easily at any time to ensure issues are resolved quickly," TeamViewer said in a statement last week. "Using TeamViewer, customers can provide remote desktop access to a user who is working on a different device in a separate location. This not only allows for effortless provisioning of virtual resources, but also for easy maintenance of these resources."

Here's the AWS Marketplace (unformatted) description of the company's flagship product:

TeamViewer is the secure remote support, remote access, and online meeting software that the world relies on. With 1 billion installations and 20+ million connected devices at any given time. With TeamViewer you will: - Remotely control and connect to any device quickly and securely over the Internet - Share your screen with others for online meetings and collaboration - Receive online support from your helpdesk / IT staff - Enjoy cross-platform connections with support for to Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry - Collaborate with your teams and clients by sharing documents and work together on the same computer Features: - Establish sessions easily without configuration by a single click - Works through firewalls and proxy servers - Transfer files - Chat - Video - Multi monitor support - Sound and video transmission in real-time - Highest security standards: 256 Bit AES Session Encoding, 2048 Bit RSA Key Exchange - Available in 33 languages - 24/5 Support through offices in the US, Germany and Australia
  • RiverMeadow Server Migration SaaS
This comes from RiverMeadow Software Inc., a specialist in "cross-hypervisor, Lift & Shift server migration," which said the new entry lets AWS Marketplace users buy Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) migrations from the company's storefront with a pay-as-you-go pricing model.

"RiverMeadow's support for AWS Marketplace SaaS Subscriptions enables customers to sign up for an account and consume RiverMeadow Cloud Migration SaaS directly through AWS Marketplace, with integrated monthly billing based on consumption," the company said in a statement. "The customer experience and workflow is designed around a native AWS customer experience from an account security, identity and commercial perspective. In addition to consumption based billing through AWS Marketplace, customers can still procure volume subscriptions directly from RiverMeadow."

    Here's the marketplace description:

Designed and built specifically for enterprise AWS customer migrations, RiverMeadow SaaS provides high performance and secure workload migrations into AWS. RiverMeadow is the only technology that offers an agent-less SaaS delivered migration service for secure, efficient and automated workload migrations into AWS VPC environments. Customers may migrate workloads across VPN or AWS DirectConnect networks, typically deployed for enterprise migrations.

RiverMeadow SaaS leverages AWS APIs and native AWS security features to securely complete migrations from a multitude of source environments to AWS. RiverMeadow SaaS is agentless and performs live workload migrations, without impacting the source production environment.

  • Blockstack Core
Blockstack Inc. leverages blockchain technology to provide "a new decentralized Internet."

"The applications on blockstack are server-less and decentralized," the company's site says. "Developers start by building a single-page application in JavaScript. Then, instead of plugging the frontend into a centralized API, they plug into an API run by the user. Developers install a library called 'blockstack.js' and don't have to worry about running servers, maintaining databases or building out user management systems."

The company last week announced the addition of fastsync to boot up nodes faster, along with new AWS integration.

"This is the easiest way to deploy your own node from scratch," the company said of the AWS move. "Developers will be delighted to hear that the Blockstack listing on AWS Marketplace already has the fastsync feature and there is no need to wait several days to boot a node from the genesis block."

Here's the AWS Marketplace product description:

Blockstack is a new decentralized Internet, where users own their data and apps run on user devices without the need for hosting. Developers can build serverless apps without the need to trust any centralized services or infrastructure. Blockstack Core is the reference implementation of Blockstack. It is responsible for processing blockchain transactions, creating virtualchain state, and building the peer network amongst other things. Blockstack Core provides a RESTful interface for clients and also comes with a command-line-interface (CLI).
