SharePoint Enterprise Lands On AWS Marketplace

SharePoint Enterprise, Microsoft's jack-of-all-trades software for common business functions, is now available on the Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) cloud.

"Designed to suit the needs of many different types and sizes of organizations up to and including multinational enterprises, SharePoint Enterprise supports custom applications, mobile applications, social media integration, business intelligence and advanced content management (none of which is available in the entry-level SharePoint Foundation product)," said AWS exec Jeff Barr in a blog post last week.

SharePoint Enterprise, part of the Microsoft Office software suite, "combines various functions which are traditionally separate applications: intranet, extranet, content management, document management, personal cloud, enterprise social networking, enterprise search, business intelligence, workflow management, Web content management, and an enterprise application store," according to Wikipedia.

Now available on the AWS Marketplace, SharePoint Enterprise can help users migrate workloads -- including Windows Server workloads -- said Barr, who credited Data Resolution, a Microsoft Hosting Provider, with providing the offering.

Barr said AWS and Data Resolution teamed up to provide many different options for the new cloud offering, including options for product type, pricing model, user count, license type and AWS region.

"These options give you a lot of flexibility," Barr said. "You can run a small deployment of SharePoint Enterprise 2013 Basic on an hourly basis for development and testing, or to meet the needs of a short-term project or event. Or, you can run a larger deployment of SharePoint Enterprise 2013 Advanced on a permanent basis. Either way, you can choose to run in one of three U.S. locations. All of these options will allow you to address and accommodate success and growth in usage without undue hassles."

To get started with the new offering, users can take advantage of a free trial of SharePoint Enterprise 2013 for AWS Basic "All in One," Barr said.
