AWS Beefs Up Developer Training

Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) has improved its three-day developer training classes, adding support for more programming languages in practice labs and more coverage of dev-oriented AWS services, among other enhancements.

"Whether you're moving applications to AWS or developing specifically for the cloud, this course can show you how to use the AWS SDK to create secure, scalable cloud applications that tap the full power of the platform," said AWS exec Mike Stroh in a blog post on Friday.

Stroh said most of the updates to the Developing on AWS courses reflect feedback garnered from developers who have taken the training, offered in different locations by different vendors, including AWS.

Now, Stroh, said, developers working in the eight practice labs can use more programming languages, including Java, C#/.NET, Python, JavaScript (for Node.js and browser) running on on Windows and Linux. Coursework includes topics such as setting up credentials, using the AWS SDK to interact with AWS services, using data stores such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon DynamoDB, and more.

The course now provides a better focus on understanding key concepts before working with code in hands-on labs, Stroh said, with an emphasis on best practices and troubleshooting tips.

It also features expanded coverage of AWS services actually used by developers. "The updated course put more focus on the AWS services relevant to application development. So there's expanded coverage of Amazon DynamoDB, plus new content on AWS Lambda, Amazon Cognito, Amazon Kinesis Streams, Amazon ElastiCache, AWS CloudFormation and others."

Courses are offered in locations around the world (and virtually) by AWS and others such as ExitCertified and Global Knowledge. For example, a recent course offered by AWS in Herndon, Va., cost $1,800, while one in New York offered by Global Knowledge costs $2,095.
