MicroStrategy Puts Analytics Platform on AWS

After going "all in" with Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) in April, MicroStrategy Inc. has announced that its business intelligence (BI) platform is now generally available.

The MicroStrategy Secure Cloud is a blend of the company's enterprise analytics platform, called MicroStrategy 10 Secure Enterprise, with the AWS cloud's data integration, validation and warehousing services.

The new offering provides "a new and powerful environment where organizations can deliver transformational analytics and mobile applications in minutes," MicroStrategy said in a news release.

As befits the name, MicroStrategy Secure Cloud emphasizes security. "MicroStrategy Cloud is backed by the cutting-edge security functionality of Usher and meets or exceeds leading industry standards and best practices," the company's site says.

After using its own infrastructure provisioning for its products, the company earlier this year announced its plans to use AWS exclusively for hosting in the cloud, taking advantage of that platform's benefits such as scalability and global reach.

"Currently an Advanced Technology Partner within the Amazon Web Services Partner Network (APN), MicroStrategy chose in April 2015 to go 'all-in' AWS as the core infrastructure platform that powers MicroStrategy analytics in the cloud," the company said. "MicroStrategy is leveraging the full depth and breadth of AWS offerings, including the global footprint of AWS, and providing its customers with a fast, flexible and cost-effective way to deploy enterprise analytics at scale."

The company said Amazon Redshift, Amazon Elastic MapReduce (Amazon EMR), and Amazon Relational Database Services (Amazon RDS) are all core elements of its solution.

"With today's announcement, MicroStrategy continues to be a technology leader by delivering a cloud-based, tuned, optimized and managed enterprise configuration supported by superb system administrators," said exec Paul Zolfaghari. "This is not simply a hosted version of MicroStrategy 10, but instead is a personal production instance that is fully configured, multi-tier, and multi-node -- in essence, a world-class enterprise production analytics environment."
