Red Hat Puts Enterprise Linux for SAP HANA on AWS
Red Hat Inc. has placed its Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP HANA on the Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) cloud to provide more options for running Big Data workloads.
HANA, according to SAP, converges database and application platform technologies into one platform that leverages in-memory computing for analytics and other operations. The company says the system reaps performance benefits by removing the divide between the transaction and analytics sides of the equation.
"When you place predictive analytics, spatial processing and data virtualization on the same architecture, innovating with your Big Data is simplified and accelerated," SAP says on its site.
SAP worked with Red Hat to optimize the latter's popular enterprise Linux offering to meet the specific requirements of HANA and simplify deployment of the OS.
That deployment is now easier with the hosted AWS service.
"This availability as a listing in the AWS Marketplace provides customers with additional deployment options for their Big Data workloads, adding more choice to an ecosystem of hardware and cloud configurations," Red Hat said in a statement last week. "In addition to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, customers can also use their own subscriptions to deploy on AWS with Red Hat Cloud Access for Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, JBoss Enterprise Web Server, OpenShift by Red Hat and Red Hat Gluster Storage."
