AWS GovCloud Gets Postgres Database
EnterpriseDB announced its open source relational database has met government-specified requirements and received certification to run on the Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) GovGloud.
The GovCloud is a "region" specifically targeting government users who have to comply with strict regulatory, security and compliance requirements in order to support sensitive workloads.
EnterpriseDB describes its Postgres database as "the world's most advanced open source relational database," noting it has recently increased performance and added new features such as expanded NoSQL support and geospatial capabilities via PostGIS.
Now available on the AWS Marketplace are two versions of the database: Postgres Plus Cloud Database Advanced and Postgres Plus Cloud Database Basic. The company said both come with specialized support for Postgres, while the advanced edition features more enhancements and tools, along with Oracle compatibility.
"EDB's Postgres Plus Advanced Server on Amazon Web Services means government agencies can move away from costly traditional vendors and slash costs, without sacrificing performance," said company exec Marc Linster. "End users benefit by pairing such an advanced open source relational database as Postgres with the reach and flexibility of AWS' global cloud infrastructure."
