Rubrik Now Provides Data Protection for Cloud Apps

Rubrik has updated its portfolio of services to provide data protection for apps running in the Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) cloud.

The Palo Alto, Calif., company, which offers a Cloud Data Management platform, also is supporting the Microsoft Azure cloud. The platform is designed to help companies recover, manage and secure data residing in public and private clouds.

That functionality is provided by on-premises plug-and-play appliances or through the Rubric Edge software appliance running at the edge of networks. In view of the rise of hybrid cloud architectures, Rubrik is deployed to the AWS and Azure public clouds via software instances that protect cloud-native applications, provide inter- and intra-cloud replication (including Azure to AWS, and across regions of the respective clouds, the company said. It also delivers bi-directional replication among cloud and on-premises systems, cloud data archival and other functionality.

The company said its cloud offerings help organizations: avoid vendor lock-in; simplify cloud management; start small and scale as needed; immediately identify and provide application-consistent recoveries; and deliver actionable insights via visual reporting capabilities.

"Today, we're excited to announce that Rubrik now delivers data protection (backup and recovery, replication and DR, archival, search, and more) for applications running in AWS and Azure," the company said in a blog post this week. "It's easy to get started. Once you're part of our Early Access program, we'll provide the AMI/VHD directly to the AWS/Azure account for you to spin up on our recommended compute instances."

Rubrik didn't provide any pricing information in its announcements.
