AWS Outage Hits Major Web Sites
Twitter and other social media sites were abuzz yesterday about an Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) outage in the eastern U.S. region that reportedly caused problems with several major Web sites.
According to the AWS Service Health Dashboard, the Northern Virginia region (US East) incurred problems with several services, including CloudWatch, Simple Email Service, Lambda, WorkSpaces and DynamoDB.
It was the latter that seemed to cause the most problems, as reported by a programmer/developer on Twitter who with the handle Saytajeet who tweeted that it brought down Netflix, Medium, Amazon Echo and many more sites.
Web site operators also took to the social airwaves to report isses to their customers, such as language learning site Duolingo:
